another (my 100th post)
i am feeling a little like a kid in a candy store.
I love the look of this technique.
I have been hanging out with the drawings
for a while now
and I am so excited to have something really fun made from them.
It isn't at all what I would have thought
when I put them on paper.
I could stay up all night doing this,
but I really need to get some sleep
I love when I loose track of time and get lost in art.
goodnight stack of drawings
waiting to be transformed.
I will get back to you really soon.
ps
all of these are people I drew
on my train rides to work
over the last few years.
yeah 100th post on my blog...

A really cool friend sent me a link to a drawing tool on-line.
I also got a tablet a while back as a gift.
VisTablet - It is awesome and I am using it on a really old mac
(the 10 year old quicksilver is not so quick anymore
but that new computer keeps getting pushed behind other things - and I digress).

I combined these things tonight (since I am stuck on my painting)
I used the tablet to trace a drawing I did a while back.

IF: Focused
there is a blankness to the people on the train
thinking about their lives, work or something else.
She is focused on something else.
Not present in the moment

Focused
Woman with gold ear ring.
The gold was the only color she wore.
Did I capture the focus - blank look?

Not another pretty face

Here is my August Illo -
Marker on paper...
I got a question on my blogg from someone about who I draw.
I get the pictures from the magazine and then draw from that. Most of the time they are tiny and low quality - so that is always a fun challenge. They take me about an hour to do. I use the grey set of Prisma color markers - start light and work to dark.
Last night while drawing this one i noticed that there are several moments as I am filling in the greys where I think it is awful and that I should start again. But I keep after it and keep working and somehow I seem to pull it out of the down spiral. I do that with all my drawings - I once heard someone call it the ugly stage.

May Day

So here is my latest illo. Primacolor markers on paper...
Say Cheese!
Personal Note:
I have been carrying my sketchbook with me for the past few months.
Nothing gets drawn in it, but my mind is usually thinking about the people I see in the city and how I would draw them.
Today on my way home I saw an older woman in a big blue hat - like you would wear to a horse race - walking down Dad Clark (it is a busy residential street) with two red hand weights that she lifted with each step to shoulder hight. It made me laugh out-loud - not at the idea of her but the fact that I wanted to be her when I am in my 70s. Confidently walking down the street in my best hat and working my arms the best I can.
But I seem to be stuck and unable to draw - even with such images in my mind...
I guess that is how I am right now... stuck.
My last entry spoke of a great new adventure that everyday is lots of fun,
but now it always feels like a Sunday.
Still a bunch of fun
but it's the day before you have to go back to your job,
to your reality.
You see I didn't get that job.
I am not going to be hired on.
My Monday is some time in July.
I don't know when yet but soon.
And the job search begins again... with heavy heart.
I have little confidence now. it is so hard not to take it all personally - to wonder what I am doing wrong.
I struggle just to breathe in and out some days -
today must be one of those days -
so I am sorry to bring you into this dark corner of my mind now.
But most days I look to all the good in my life.
I am healthy and my family is all really good.
So it is just this one tiny little thing -
like what the hell am I supposed to do with my life?
I think of going back to school to get my teaching license.
Teach Art - painting or drawing or graphic design or who knows...
But I have to have a job to pay the mortgage...
so I don't know how it will all work out,
but it will.
It always does.
PLUG...
So if you hear of anything, anything at all, let me know...
And hope you enjoy the smiling May guy -
These are always lots of fun to do. I will still draw with the right motivation.
Oh and Jim- if you read this, sorry about that project, I am a bit out of my skill these days, but I will try, hopefully soon.
Thanks for reading

Evolution

So here is number 3! Cheesy smile man!
It is fun to see how they are evolving and how much easier men are to draw than women...
I call this evolution because I am evolving. Being forced to.. I am losing my job. Never in a million years thought that I would be out of work but here I am. There is a job that I want really bad... But don't know if they will hire me. I am working on it!
My saga is deep right now and I will save the tail of woes and the too much information and just say that it is scary. But all change is and it usually works out for the better... I have been unhappy for some time and didn't want the job that was offered to me at a lower pay. Choices we make - in hopes of something better.
Welp-wish me luck!

Face too

Happy New Year!
Here is my illustration for Feb for SMA.
Pantone Markers on paper.
I think they style is good but there is something wrong with her eyes.... And there was in the photo I drew from.
It has been fun to get back into drawing people. When I was in high school I would tear faces from magazines and draw them. Good practice.
